travelers should prepare for longer security
lines. Travelers should expect lengthy
security lines this holiday season. An analysis
found that travelers flying out of smaller
airports waited an average of seven to eight
minutes, and travelers flying from the busiest
50 airports waited an average of 12 minutes.
Holiday
travel season prompts carriers to hire seasonal
workers: Airlines are hiring additional
workers ahead of the busy holiday travel season.
An Air Transport Association spokesman noted
that some seasonal workers will help at gate
areas and at check-in kiosks. Meanwhile,
travelers can make their trips easier by
arriving at the airport early and booking
flights that depart early in the day.
TSA aims to
improve no-fly list, Hawley says. The TSA is
taking steps to improve the no-fly watch list,
TSA Administrator Kip Hawley said. He noted that
moving watch-list matching responsibilty inside
the government will resolve false positive
issues and provide more thorough
vetting.
Air Astana,
Lufthansa
Air Astana has
signed an agreement with Lufthansa enabling card
holders of its 'Miles and More' frequent flyer
programme to accrue mileage on designated Air
Astana flights and routes. Members can now earn
and redeem mileage on Air Astana flights between
London/Frankfurt/Hanover in Europe and
Almaty/Astana in Kazakhstan. Miles earned are
variable based on normal business class, economy

O'Hare International
FAA may keep
caps in place at O'Hare. The FAA may not lift
flight caps at Chicago's O'Hare International
Airport next year after a new runway opens.
However, the city maintains that it needs the
caps to be lifted to pay for an airport
expansion plan. The FAA has not made a final

sights on new runway, rail system. The Detroit
airport hopes to build a new airport rail
system, a seventh runway and larger terminals.
The airport expects traffic to increase 67% over

Eastern Airways
starts its first services to Norway Nov. 12 as
the airline bids to capitalise on strong oil
links. The carrier is launching flights from
Newcastle to Stavanger via Aberdeen each
weekday, using Saab 2000 aircraft. Departures
are at 07:10 from Newcastle and 18:05 from
Stavanger. Norway is the third largest exporter
of oil in the world and most major energy
companies have bases in Stavanger. Introduction
of the Saab 2000 will add a further 840 seats on

Hilton Hotels
Corporation (HHC) has announced it has signed a
major franchise, launching the first of a series
of Hampton by Hilton hotels in the UK. The first
UK Hampton by Hilton and Europe hotels are
expected to open by late September, October
2008, in Corby North in the Midlands. With 86
guestrooms the hotel will be located on the new
Rockingham Leisure Park in Corby, which is part
of a multi-million pound regeneration scheme for
the town. Complementary high-speed internet
access and a hot breakfast will be included as
part of the "100% satisfaction guaranteed" by
Hampton by Hilton. HCC currently has more than
1,500 Hampton hotels with more than 140,000

Intercontinental
Hotels Group (IHG), the owner of Express by
Holiday Inn brand, says it has signed a 20-hotel
franchise agreement with British investment
group Zinnia Hotels Properties Holdings. A total
investment of ¤180m ($264.7m) by the
investment group is anticipated, effectively
doubling IHG concentration of Express by Holiday
Inn Brands in Spain. IHG currently has 15
Express by Holiday Inn hotels within Spain,
including a property at Madrid Airport which was
unveiled in September this year. In addition to
the agreement with Zinnia Hotel Properties,

restaurant will reopen today. The restaurant,
which has been renovated and upgraded, closed in

fastest-growing hotel brand - will open its
500th property in Bournemouth Nov. 13. The new
hotel is located within a 10min walk of the city
centre and 15min from the seafront. With 98
bedrooms, restaurant and bar Premier believes it
is "perfect for leisure or business guests."
Each room will include en-suite bathroom with
shower and bath, TV, tea and coffee making

Mixed reviews
for first trip on Virgin America. David Grossman
recently flew on startup Virgin America for the
first time. He originally paid $39 for his
ticket, but the price rose to $110.40 with fees,
taxes, a shift to an exit row, checking a second
bag and an itinerary change. However, he noted
that all seats are equipped with power outlets
and that travelers have access to satellite

expected for area surrounding Dulles airport.
Commercial and residential development on the
roads to Dulles International Airport in
Virginia has started to slow. New buildings may
stay empty as federal contracting slows and the
